Research shows that, in addition to families and schools, the community has "assets" that can "make a difference" in assisting young people to develop their 20 assets.
"Community" assets also are divided into 4 categories: SUPPORT, EMPOWERMENT, BOUNDARIES & EXPECTATIONS, and CONSTRUCTIVE USE OF TIME. One challenge we face, as a program, is to make universally accessible to all local youth, parents, and others, what the community offers as assets to help build youth assets.
To meet this challenge, we have on this web site a link to ABC information, and an "application" to register your self or your organization, as a current resource (asset) provider for children and youth in the Eaton Rapids area. On the application, you describe what you can offer, as well as when and where, and the like. As a volunteer Board, of ABC in Eaton Rapids, we are in no position to screen out applicants or registrants, unless their is evidence of criminality or wrongful intent.
As always, parents must assess, individualize, and monitor their children and youth, and the community resources they utilize. Parents or guardians are fully responsible for the safety and welfare of their children and youth, not the local ABC Board.
